Padel levels

The 2025 grid sets out 8 levels of play, from beginner to elite. From level 4 up, competition criteria (FFT ranking, tournament results) let you place yourself precisely.

The FFT ranking counts your best 12 results over 12 months. Below 12 tournaments played, the ranking is mechanically understated: the average points per tournament then becomes the better guide.

Beginner

First steps on court: discovering the rules and learning the basic shots.

Improver

The basic shots are there. Short, slow rallies and first volleys.

Elementary

Recreational play: the serve is acquired, matches with sustained rallies, the back glass starts to be used.

Intermediate

Long rallies with repeated moves up to and back from the net. Coming in after the serve or a lob, playing the ball off the glass, positioning coordinated with the partner.

Competition criteria

  • Wins in P25 and P100, finishing at the bottom of a P100 draw.
  • 5 to 25 points on average per tournament.

Advanced

Controlled game: serve-and-volley, dropping back on lobs, counter-attack, shots with spin. Systematically to the net after a lob, points finished at the volley or with a smash, defending off the glass, keeping the ball in play on 360s and double glass.

Competition criteria

  • Women: French top 1500 (up to 900th). Men: French top 10000 (up to 6000th).
  • P100: middle of the draw with at least 50% wins. P250: bottom of the draw.
  • 25 to 50 points on average per tournament.

Upper advanced

Fast game and controlled spin, on serve as in the rally. Varying the zones and speeds of the volley, defending double glass, the 360 fully mastered, counter-attacking the opponents' smashes.

Competition criteria

  • Women: French top 900 (up to 450th). Men: French top 6000 (up to 3000th).
  • P100: seeded, tournaments won, regular top 4. P250: middle of the draw with at least 50% wins. P500: matches won, bottom of the draw.
  • 50 points or more on average per tournament.

Expert

Every aspect of the game and its tactics is mastered: heavy spin (bandeja, víbora), double glass handled perfectly, the glass used to counter-attack.

Competition criteria

  • Women: French top 450 (up to 150th). Men: French top 3000 (up to 1000th).
  • P250: first half of the draw, sometimes seeded. P500: matches won, bottom or middle of the draw.
  • 100 points or more on average per tournament.

Elite

The very top of French padel.

Competition criteria

  • Women: French top 150. Men: French top 1000.
  • Regulars in P1000, P1500 and P2000 draws.

Every player profile shows an estimated level, worked out from these criteria: the FFT ranking first, then the average points per counted tournament over the last 12 months for players with a low ranking or few tournaments. A "+" marks the top of a level: the upper half of the criterion, or an average points tally that already reaches the level above.
